About Michael Moran

Michael Socrates Moran is an actor, director and Artistic Director of the newly formed Ubuntu Theater Project in Oakland, California. Favorite directing credits include: Grapes of Wrath by Frank Galati (UCSD) Yellowman by Dael Orlandersmith (Ubuntu), Fool For Love by Sam Shepard (Ubuntu), Dutchman by Amiri Baraka (Ubuntu), in the crowding darkness by Jeff Augustin (UCSD), Hamelin by Kristin Idaszak (UCSD), Tonight We Improvise (AD/UCSD), Elizabeth I (AD/UCSD), The Rose Parade (Body Project Ensemble, Crisis Art Festival in Italy); workshop of The Dreamland Tree by Jenny Rachel Weiner (Piven Theater), and an original stage adaptation of My Sisterís Keeper by Jenn Proske at the Boston University School of Theater. Acting credits include Pope Joan (Off-Broadway New World Stages/Incite Festival), The Corn is Green directed by Nicholas Martin and A Civil War Christmas (U/S) directed by Jessica Thebus with the Huntington Theater Company, Melancholy Play (Boston Premiere) directed by Bevin OíGara, The Listener by Liz Duffy Adams with Crowded Fire Theater in San Francisco (World Premier), Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream and the title roles in Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth with Shakespeare Now! He was a company member with the Interrobang Theater Project in Chicago where he played the title role in the companyís inaugural production of Daniel MacIvorís one man show, Here Lies Henry. He has acted with other Chicago companies that include Piven Theater Workshop, Chicago Dramatists, Oak Park Theater Festival, Urban Theater Company, Buzz22, LiveWire and many other wonderful Chicago storefront theaters. In August of 2013 he performed in David Jacobiís Ex Machina directed by classmate Sarah Wansley at the NYFringe. Michael has a BFA from the Boston University School of Theater/LAMDA and he is thrilled to be pursuing an MFA in Directing at UCSD.
