JUDITH SHARP is on the dance faculty for the U.C. San Diego Department of Theater and Dance. For California Ballet Company, she is the Ballet Mistress, the Education Director and assists in many other areas including production and development. She also teaches in the California Ballet School Pre-Professional Division. Her choreography has won awards from: the Second Annual International Dance Competition held in Tijuana, Mexico (1996; Grand Prize); 2nd place (1987) and 1st place (1993) at California Ballet’s Choreographer's Concerts. Nine of her ballets are currently in the California Ballet repertory.
Judith has taught and choreographed throughout southern California including Ballet Society of San Diego and U.C. Irvine. She served on the board of directors for the San Diego Dance Alliance for four years, and coordinated their bi-monthly Performing Arts Lab. As a vehicle for choreographic opportunities, she co-directed San Diego Dance Designs (1988-1991), producing several programs of original ballets utilizing local grants, often sponsoring other artists.
After training and performing with the early San Diego Ballet Company under the direction of Nancy Johnson and Richard Carter, and later, Sonia Arova and Thor Sutowski, Ms. Sharp studied at American Ballet Theatre in New York. She then received a degree in Ballet from the Indiana University School of Music. Her interest in choreography began at IU where her first ballet, Danse a Cinq, was selected for the dance touring program.
