Biography

WALTON JONES is a director and playwright who has written and directed on Broadway, Off-Broadway and in many regional theatres around the country. He directed world-premieres of plays by Sam Shepard, David Mamet, Arthur Kopit, Lanford Wilson, Chris Durang, José Rivera, Thomas Babe, Derek Walcott, Naomi Iizuka, and John Pielmeier. He also directed the U.S. premiere of Howard Barker's No End of Blame and the Alaskan premiere of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Walt was a frequent director at the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference from 1980 until 1990. He is the author of the much-produced musical, The 1940's Radio Hour, which he also directed on Broadway in 1979. Recently, Walt directed the West Coast premiere of Keith Huff's Birdsend,The Murder League at the Asolo Theatre and the West Coast premiere of Michael Feingold's translation of The Threepenny Opera in Los Angeles, Road to Nirvana at Tim Robbins’ The Actor’s Gang. From 1997-2005, Walt served as the Department Chair at UC San Diego’s Theatre & Dance department.
