PROFESSOR of ACTING
THEATRE & DANCE DEPARTMENT, University of California, San Diego

The Department of Theatre and Dance at UC SAN DIEGO (http://theatre.ucsd.edu) seeks an experienced theatre professional to teach in our MFA professional actor training program, at the rank of Full Professor, with tenure, beginning Fall 2017. The successful candidate will serve as a core member of a high profile graduate training program and be expected to participate in all facets of the department, including recruitment, casting, MFA student mentorship, and teaching undergraduate courses.

This position requires: an MFA or professional equivalence, national visibility, a history of productions, a strong commitment to teaching excellence, demonstrated leadership abilities, a desire to bring vision and grow with the acting area, and a strong potential for continuous professional creative activities. Applicants with a background of significant professional experience who have also taught in academic or professional studio settings are preferred. The ideal candidate will have strong demonstrated accomplishments or plans in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a role in advancing UC San Diego's commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR of DIRECTING
THEATRE & DANCE DEPARTMENT, University of California, San Diego

The UC SAN DIEGO, Department of Theatre and Dance (http://theatre.ucsd.edu) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Directing at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2017.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant and diverse department and will have a strong commitment to teaching, mentoring, and the collaborative process of theatre making. S/he will exhibit innovative thinking about the programmatic development of the Directing area and be a member of the Directing faculty, expected to participate in all facets of the department life, including teaching graduate and undergraduate classes, plus classes of interest and specialization. The appointee will directly contribute his/her mentorship and supervision of MFA directors during productions. In addition, the ideal candidate will display a strong ability in textual analysis, interest and experience in new play development, sophisticated visual aesthetics, and knowledge regarding contemporary models of theatre making. The applicant will support collegiality and have the ability to develop interdisciplinary relationships with all departmental MFA areas (acting, dance, design, playwriting, stage management), as well as the PhD area in Theatre and Drama.

Applicants should possess an MFA or equivalent professional experience in directing and evidence of strong teaching potential or experience. Preferred is a minimum of 1-2 years teaching experience at the college or university level. Preferred qualifications also include demonstrated potential or accomplishments in areas contributing to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and a desire to play a role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.

TEMPORARY LECTURER
THEATRE & DANCE DEPARTMENT, University of California, San Diego

We are seeking applicants for temporary lecturer position(s) in theatre or dance disciplines. Appointment(s) may be part-time, full-time, quarterly or annual, with the possibility of renewal contingent on performance and funding availability. Positions available for upcoming quarters.

Candidates are required to possess MFA, PhD, or equivalent professional experience. Qualified candidates will also have at least two years of teaching experience or specialized field expertise to teach the course, with experience teaching the exact theatre or dance discipline preferred.

TENURE TRACK OR TENURED PROFESSOR
FOR A NEW INITIATIVE IN PREACTICAL ETHICS

The University of California, San Diego invites applications from outstanding candidates for up to four separate searches (totaling up to eight positions) for TENURE TRACK or TENURED FACULTY POSITIONS in environmental justice, health care ethics, business ethics, and the social impact of technology, medicine, and science.

These positions are part of a bold multi-discipline, multi-year initiative in practical ethics that spans the entire University. In this initiative, traditional normative ethical concerns are embedded in cross-disciplinary research in the humanities, social sciences, physical sciences, biological sciences, geosciences, engineering, business, and medicine.

Each appointment will be made jointly between two divisions or schools in order to facilitate collaborations in new inter-disciplinary fields. These areas include the Divisions of Arts and Humanities, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, the School of Global Policy and Strategy, the Jacobs School of Engineering, Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Rady School of Management, and the School of Medicine.

Appointments generally will be at the Assistant or Associate Professorial level and in exceptional cases at the very early Professorial level. The University of California, San Diego, is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body.

There are at present four separate areas within the overall initiative:

  1. Social Impact of Science, Medicine, and Technology
  2. Health Care Ethics
  3. Environmental Justice
  4. Business Ethics

Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant field. Successful applicants will be expected to teach both graduate and undergraduate students in the participating departments and establish a vigorous program of high-quality research that focuses on innovative approaches in one of the targeted areas.

Successful practical ethics applicants will complement exceptional expertise in multiple areas at UC San Diego, including, but not limited to: environmental sciences and environmental studies, bioethics, U.S. and global policy, public policy, sociology, philosophy, cultural and literary studies, political science, social psychology, political psychology, history of science, engineering, biomedical sciences, healthcare, and business.

The preferred candidate will have demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in an academic setting.

The level of appointment and salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on UC pay schedules.
