What is love? Tis not hereafter; Present mirth hath present laughter. What's to come is still unsure… (Feste, Act II scene 3)Join us in Illyria, a land of mistaken identity and misplaced affection, where Shakespeare takes us on a hilarious and heartbreaking fantasia on love. Twelfth Night, written to be performed as a Twelfth Night entertainment at the culmination of traditional celebrations in 1602 England, has many of the elements inherent in the seasonal festivities, such as cross-dressing disguises, mistaken identities, and unrequited aspirations of upper mobility. This production features new music composed by co-musical directors, voice faculty Linda Vickerman and MFA director Jerry Ruiz, and is being presented in the black-box intimacy of the Mandell Weiss Forum Studio. Director, Sarah Rasmussen, directed last season’s hugely popular Catching Flight, assisted guest director Chay Yew on Gum and Jerry Ruiz on Blood Wedding. She has directed at the Hangar Theatre, The Playwrights’ Center and for Pillsbury House Theatre’s Chicago Ave. Project as well as assisting at the Guthrie Theatre, Children’s Theatre Company, Ten Thousand Things Theatre and Theatre de la Jeune Lune. Ms Rasmussen is the recipient of a Fulbright, a Drama League Directing Fellowship, and a member of the Lincoln Center Directors’ Lab.
