HIGHLY SPRUNG captures the zest and exuberance of our undergraduate student dancers performing original works created by our new generation of undergraduate choreographers. Fast and furious hip-hop, dance and film collaborations, edgy physical theatre, and dancing that ranges from sensual and fluid to athletic and electric, all make up the ingredients for some highly innovative choreography.
YOLANDE SNAITH (Director) began her career in 1984, and has been the Artistic Director of Yolande Snaith Theatredance since 1990. Her work has toured extensively throughout the UK and overseas, winning numerous awards including the Prix d'Auteur du Conceil General de la Seine Saint Denis, 1998, for Blind Faith. She has choreographed several dance films for British television in collaboration with director Ross MacGibbon, and was the choreographer for Stanley Kubrick's final film, Eyes Wide Shut. Since moving to the US in 2002 to take on her current position as a Professor of Dance in the UCSD Theatre & Dance Department, Snaith has created several works including Garden Of Lila, a collaboration with
composer Shahrokh Yadegari and film maker Tara Knight, presented at the Japan America Theatre in Los Angeles, 2005; and, more recently, Garden Trilogy, a full-length concert of new work that premiered in San Diego, Fall 2006, with her new company IMAGOmoves.
