New Directions

Co-Directed by Eric Geiger and Pat Rincon

@ Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre

June 1 - 4

The Performance

Our first year MFA Dance Theatre choreographer Anya Cloud stretches dance theatre boundaries in an inventive, new work along with original works by our most talented undergraduate choreographers.

The Directors

Eric Geiger makes his own dances, creates and collaborates with other artists and teaches full time at the University of California, San Diego in the Department of Theatre and Dance. His values around performance and dance have been deeply influenced by experiences in performing works by and collaborating with artists such as Bill T. Jones, William Forsythe, Stephen Petronio, Susan Marshall, Maguy Marin, Angelin Preljocaj, Nancy McCaleb, Sarah Shelton Mann, Deborah Hay and collaborative dance theatre, LIVE. Making connections within a body, between bodies, through moving and creating helps him to understand his own experiences and gain a better sense of what matters to him. It enables him to maneuver through, interact with, and make sense of the world around him.

Patricia Rincon has performed, directed and choreographed in California, Mexico and Europe, as well as participated as an artist-in-residence at the University of Heidelberg Sports Institute, University of Frankfurt Main, University of Manheim and in Konstanz, Germany. She has taught at the Universities of Zurich, Bern and Lugano in Switzerland, and most recently with the students of the IUNA Instituto Universitario Nacional de Arte in Buenos Aries, Argentina. She is the Artistic Director of the Patricia Rincon Dance Collective since 1982. Ms. Rincon has developed the successful annual Blurred Borders Dance Festival as well as the site-specific Myth Project series in San Diego. Ms. Rincon has continued to work with partner, Paula Zacharias, in creating numerous dance video/film projects. She was awarded a UC San Diego Latino Studies Research Initiative grant in 2008-2009 for the research and making of their new documentary: Latino Now-Landscape of Desire, filmed in Mexico and California about the American Dream. Patricia has just been invited to present her work Peeled and teach at the IUNA Instituto Universitario Nacional de Arte in Buenos Aires, Argentina in September 2011. Patricia is Head of Dance in the UC San Diego Department of Theatre and Dance.
