About the Play

About the Playwright

Performed in front of UCSD’s famed Geisel Library and in a wooded grove adjacent, the play will take you from a world of oppressive rules to a forest of mistaken-love and magic. Four lovers stumble into the middle of a fight between the fairy king and queen. Puck, a fairy who thrives on mischief, gleefully creates mayhem and a clueless group of amateur actors gets entangled in his pranks. In the morning, will it all be a dream?

William Shakespeare is considered by many to be the greatest playwright of all time, although many facts about his life remain shrouded in mystery. He lived during the reigns of Elizabeth I and James I and coined hundreds of new words and phrases that we still use today. A Midsummer’s Night Dream was one of the first plays he wrote and continues to be one of the most popular of his 37 plays.
