About the Show
 
NEW DIRECTIONS features the work of student choreographers and will welcome dance makers and movers from across all areas, and beyond the department. The purpose of New Directions will be to engage dancers and choreographers across campus, and to support the next generation of embodied storytellers and movement makers. Multi-modal and interdisciplinary collaborations are encouraged. All are welcome and encouraged to propose new, brave ideas and to audition. 

 

 

New Directions
Theatre and Dance Department's Spring supported dance production featuring 100% student choreography! 
 
Ana Maria Alvarez will be directing and mentoring the choreographers from across campus selected and each choreographer will pitch their ideas during week 1 of the Spring Quarter to a panel of faculty. Please fill out this pitch form as soon as you have your idea ready to share - the more details the better. The form must be filled out in order to audition. 
 
The purpose of New Directions will be to engage dancers and choreographers across campus, and to support the next generation of embodied storytellers and movement makers. Multi-modal and interdisciplinary collaborations are encouraged.
 
The pitches/choreographer auditions will happen on Wednesday, April 3rd 6pm-8pm - studio 3 - Dancers who are interested in being cast are required to attend that audition as well - to see the pitched pieces and express interest in the works. 
 
The dancer/performer audition will happen on Wednesday, April 10th from 4-6pm - Studio 1- and all who are interested in performing will be required to attend - and the choreographers and several faculty members will cast everyone who shows up for the audition.
 
All styles,  genres,  approaches are welcome.  Dance Theater, text heavy embodied work, dance film, participatory, site specific work, large ensemble pieces, solos and everything in between will all be considered - so roll up your sleeves, dream, create and make - and come ready to share! I am happy to answer questions!
